Fallout 4 Permadeath Roleplay - First Try (Part 7 - Final)

Part 7: Road of Revenge

Detective Valentine was held hostage in an old vault located in a subway station. When I entered there I had to fight myself through thugs dressed in fancy pre-war cloth. Valentine was not a man, but a synth, or a cyborg. He offered me his help.

The clues that I gave him fitted to a mercenary who used to live in Diamond City . The luck was on our side: I could bribe a blonde chick in mayors office, she gave me the keys to Kelloggs appartment. We found a hidden room there. In this room there were cigars with Kelloggs DNA on them. Fortunately, Dogmeat had the proper training to track this man.

Our road led us to Fort Hagen, the place where Kellogg lived. It was heavily guarded by synths but thanks to my power armor I could plow myself through them without any complications. When Kellogg lost his last guard, he finally agreed to talk, but there was nothing to talk about - the rage boiled in me and so I took him by surprise and opened up fire before he knew what was coming. Lucky for me - there was a terminal in his room, in which I found evidence that he sold Shaun to the Institute. I got through so much trouble, only to find out that my son was captured by probably the strongest faction in post-war America.

--------------------------------------------
Hooray! I fulfilled the victory condition. To be honest, I expected it to be much harder than it actually was. Not a single death! Well, death would mean death, so I gave my best.
To do a little recap of what I did in the final part. The rescue of Valentine was super easy. I just killed every guard one by one with my rifle and upgraded pistol(advanced receiver makes a HUGE difference). Then, when I confronted that fat-ass, whose name I forgot, I just threw a molotow at him and his two companions, and finished him off in VATS while he was taking fire damage aswell. This same trick helped me with Kellogg. I threw a molotow cocktail at him before he could do anything. I didn't even talk to him. That helped a lot. I instantly switched in to VATS and gave him between 5 and 7 bullets. At the same time the molotow was sucking out his health, so he didn't really stand a chance. The remaining synth guards were easy.

Part 6: Diamond City

Before continuing my journey to Diamond City, I returned back to Sanctuary for my power armor. What else can protect me better? When I reached Diamond City, it turned out to be a town within baseball stadium walls. Really? So after 200 years the humanity is still on a medieval level and uses walls as protection. The guards were outfitted in baseball unifroms. When I approchead the entrance, I saw a woman whose name was Piper. She is a journalist of this city and they expelled her for writing "lies". I didn't bother much. All I wanted was to find Shaun. Very soon I found a Detective Agency. Not bad for a backward society. Unfortunately though, the detective ran in to some kind of trap, and I agreed to help, because I don't have a choice.

-------------------------------------------------
Everything is good so far. I am not fighting any unnecessary battles, just want to complete my quest. I resupplied at a store. Bought a fusion core and explosives, because I want to be prepared for Kellogg.

Fallout 4 Permadeath Roleplay - First Try (Part 5)

Part 5: Long Road

Early in the morning I started my journey to Diamond City. I marked it on my pip boy and thought it would be an easy and relatively short voyage. I did not know yet that it would be the longest day of my life. The road was quiet for some time, but then I saw a cafe. There was a lady and two people, a man and a woman in leather jackets, having an argument with the owner of that cafe. When i approached them, they pointed their guns at me. Deescalation attempt failed. I pulled my gun in a cowboy manner and quickly put an end to their miserable existence. The owner of that cafe, an elder woman, thanked me with 100 bottlecaps(oh, those bottlecaps). It turned out I saved her son from purchasing more drugs from those dealers. I was starting to feel like a hero. First I saved lives in Concord, now I did it again. And I came out of the Vault just a couple of days ago. I resupplied in which turned out to be an all-round store and resumed my journey. Shortly after my Pip Boy caught a new frequence - unknown people were asking for help! The place that they were in was between me and Diamond City, and I didn't want to come off the road anyway.

When I arrived at the Boston Police Station, I encountered zombies. Well, they also call them Ghouls. So now I know what this means. Irradiated humans, reduced to a walking corpse. They were very agile and made a terrific noise, but I dealt with them very easily. A man in a power suit thanked me for my effort. He said he was from the Brotherhood of Steel, an organization devoted to prevent evil people from accessing advanced technology.

My primary goal was still Diamond City, but I decided to help them out with their problem - they needed to restore communications wit their HQ. I agreed to help, but not because I was eager to. I just knew how dangerous the outside world had become and I didn't even know if I could get to Diamond City at all, because who knows what lies ahead. Maybe they would help me with supplies. And they did. They lavishly granted access to their ammo stockpile, which was great, because I was running low on supplies.

My next job was to follow Paladin Danse on a dangerous mission - finding a transmitter in an abandoned facility. The problem - it was occupied by the so-called synths from the Institute. After heavy fighting we achieved our goal and then agreed to meet back at the Police Station. I am writing this in my diary right now, thinking how epic this day was - the longest day in my life.

----------------------------------------------------------

I decided to join the Brotherhood, because I hadn't done this quest before in my regular playthrough and I was really curious. Also: Paladin Danse promised me a power armor. I already have one, but that means I' ll have at least one more fusion core + the one that I got in the "Synth's Facility". This will help me with my main objective of this permadeath playthrough - completing the first Act of the Main Quest. The Boss Fight(Kellogg) was very difficult in my regular game, so I want to prep as best as I can. So far no difficulties. Wasn't in a single tricky situation. I picked up a weird looking short barrel rifle, which almost looks like a shotgun, but especially against ghouls I still prefer my 10mm pistol. Because it's powerful, and I have many APs. I was a bit lucky against the synths tho - they mostly targeted Danse, so he was kinda like a meatshield. If they targeted me wit their rapid-firing lasers, that would be very tricky, because I have low damage resistance and can die very very quickly. I think I'll equip a power armor as soon as I get my hands on it. I will have enough fusion cores aswell.

Fallout 4 Permadeath Roleplay - First Try (Part 4)

Part 4: Sanctuary

I spent the next two days exploring the surroundings of Sanctuary and helping my new friends with their basic needs - like having beds under a solid roof. I did some hunting, fought a couple of raiders in the surrounding areas and piled up a significant amount of loot including a fusion core, which I will use later for my power armor, though, I hope, I wont have to. I also upgraded my 10mm-pistol. It should be much more powerful now. Things are looking good. I feel like I am ready to continue my journey towards the Diamond City.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said I did upgrade my weapon, cleared out the surroundings. I even found a fatman. For now I compromised Dogmeat for Codsworth, because he is less annoying. I replaced vault suit with military fatigues which grants + 2 agility, making it a grand total of 12!

Part 3: First Engagement

When I reached Concord my heart sank at first. There was no signs of life. No people. No military outposts. No nothing. But then I heared gun fire. My first instinct was to duck and draw my weapon. In a normal world I would avoid dangerous situations, but I was desperate to find other post-nuclear survivors, and so I cautiously approached the source of gunfire sound. I then saw a man with a gun. He didn't look like a good guy. I pulled the trigger. This was the first person I killed since over 200 years. But he wasn't the last as his friends started shooting at me. Though I was frozen for two centuries, my military training was still paying off. While their bullets whistled all around chaotically, I took them out one by one in a professional fashion. Then some person with a a weird hat hailed to me from a balcony and asked for help. Before I could even answer back, he disappeared. And so I grabbed the weird looking gun, but stick with the pistol. I plowed myself through those bandits, taking them one by one from behind, before they could even notice me. This is crazy! After 200 years I can still use a gun and be good at it.

What came next was insanity: It turned out that the world had not rebuilt itself. People are still living as if it had been 10 and not 200 years. Then there was talk about ghouls, whoever they are.
These people still needed my help. They asked me to juice up the power armor and deal with the remaining raiders. Yea, I saw those power armors before the apocalypse, though I never had the chance to wear them due to my low rank. Well, guess what - now it doesn't matter. I hacked the computer downstairs and extracted the fusion core. I was somewhat of a computer nerd before the war and surprisingly my skills still didn't leave me after such a long time of..absence. I got into that power armor and grabbed a mini gun that way lying around conviniently. The remaining raiders were a cakewalk, but then a big creature with claws and horns crawled out of a tunnel. What in the world was this? I fired at it like crazy and eventually that thing went down but gosh was that an intense experience. I had seen war, but this day was the most intense in my life.

Afterwards this small group of crazy people decided to go where I used to live before the bombs dropped -  to Sanctuary. And they rewarded me for my help with bottle caps from Nuca Cola! BOTTLE CAPS! So this is the new currency of this weird world. Oh well. At least they do have a currency. After all I had seen I thought they would give me crops or a cow as payment. I need to reach that Jewel of the Commonwealth that they told me about, but first I need to return back to Sanctuary and lick my wounds.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty easy part. I was a little scared when raiders started to throw molotow cocktails and me and of course the deathclaw. But I was in a Power Armor so I am fine. I leveled up twice, but I only picked one perk - the one related to pistol damage, forgot it's name. I will keep points in reserve from now on until I need something specific.

Fallout 4 Permadeath Roleplay - First Try (Part 2)

Part 2: Is anyone left?

When I exit the vault goose bumps showered over my body. Everything looked so dead and quiet. Trees were dead, skeletons were lying around and..silence, except for wind mildly blowing in to my face. The first instinct was to rush to my house ans so I did. My robot Codsworth was still kicking! How could he survive the shockwave? I talked to him but realized that his OS was damaged and his talking didn't make any sense either. It seemed that he didn't realize the seriousness of the situation. However, he did say the same thing my pip-boy told me: over 200 years passed since the bombs had fallen. TWO HUNDRED YEARS. And then a shocking realization: what if Shaun was no longer a baby, what if he was an old man or even dead. But that coudln't be.. No no no. I did remember that they kidnapped him recently. It couldn't have happened long ago. Right? RIGHT? Whatever the truth may be, I had only one meaningful purpose: to find out if the civilization had rebuilt itself and to find Shaun. While we were looking for Shaun, we encountered giant flies. Giant flies! As if giant roaches weren't enough.. It looks like radiation damaged their genes. If that is so, then even scarier and more dangerous mammals could be expected. I returned to the vault to pick up guns that I had found there earlier. And the stimpacks. They are very important, especially if I would encounter a giant bear. The robot mentioned that Concord still had inhabitants, although he warned me that they were "rough folks", whatever that may be. I was still confident that if there are humans, then there is civiliaztion. 200  years would be enough to reclaim our country.
When I crossed the bridge I found a dead body. Still fresh. His death was very recent. I looked if he had anything on him and found two stimpacks. As I continued my journey I still couldn't find a single living human, but I did find a dog! He seemed to be very eager to join me and so I let him. I also found out that my pip boy could tune in into radio stations. And it worked! Civilization must be somewhere!

-------------------------------------------------------------
So I am just slowly moving towards Concord. I didn't take that raider's clothes yet, because my character is still exploring the post-nuclear world. He is not into scavenging either(yet). Again, he just hopes to reach a place with people and discover what's going on.

Fallout 4 Permadeath Roleplay - First Try (Part 1)

Part 1: The Beginning

I woke up from what turned out to be a cryogenic sleep. They lied to us. What else could I expect? But everything happened so fast and what choice did I have? If I hadn't entered the cell, chances are they would kill me. I saw the dead body of my spouse. I was very angry and anxious but I realized that they still had Shaun and I rushed out to the exit. I soon realized that I was the only one left.

Skeletons of dead people lying around everywhere. How much time passed? The computer logs showed me a grim fact: at least 180 days passed since I was frozen. Then what? Could I exit the vault? Was the surface too irradiated? I sat for hours in indecision, but I realized that all  supplies were gone and my only option was to exit this fallout shelter. I found a pip boy along the way. Very useful indeed! Vault-tec might have been evil, but their scientists are brilliant minds!
-------------------------------------------------
So basically my character is a sniper build with high perception and agility and 6 points in intelligence(because my character is a smart guy). He is weak and can die fast if I am not careful, but I don't plan to charge in to enemies. I will try to master the art of high range combat and stealth. For immersion purpose I did not pick any guns or ammo or even stim packs, because he doesn't know what kind of world he is dealing with yet. I will return to the vault when I realize the dangers of the outside world. I will not loot dead people's bodies(except for stimpacks) before a first serious encounter either.
